French word which means "The Cauldron"

Timeless Beauty, Unsurpassed Performance.

In 1924, two Belgian industrialists, Armand Desaegher (a casting specialist) and Octave Aubecq (an enamelling specialist), met at the Brussels Fair. They decided to create a foundry which would enamel various cookware items.

In 1925, Le Creuset® was born and set up business in Fresnoy-le-Grand in Aisne, France producing the first cocotte.  It is from this base that Le Creuset continues to produce its world famous cast iron pots.

Le Creuset® has been making world-class cookware for almost a century.   Used by leading chefs and keen cooks around the globe, Le Creuset® cookware offers outstanding performance time after time. – lecreuset.com

An American Heritage

In 1971, a brilliant metallurgist, John Ulam, established All-Clad® Metalcrafters,   producing professional quality bonded cookware for working chefs and avid home cooks. The brand flourished as early adopters realized the cookware’s extraordinary properties and exemplary cooking performance.

Originally designed to meet the demands of professional chefs, All-Clad is the undisputed choice in top culinary circles and four-star kitchens throughout the world. Today, it is also a prized possession of uncompromising home cooks.

No cookware can rival its exquisite lines, impeccable balance, innovative technology, meticulous hand-finishing and construction warranted to last a lifetime. Every piece is handcrafted with a revolutionary bonding process that uses a proprietary recipe of metals. The result? Exemplary cooking performance.

Today, All-Clad® cookware is still handcrafted in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, with American-made steel the same way it was four decades ago. – all-clad.com

Over 60 years ago, Ted and Martha Nierenberg recognized Scandinavian design as the perfect vehicle for the new casual living style that was evolving in America after World War II. At the time, American architects and manufacturers were adapting a wide variety of new materials, technologies, and designs to the new postwar attitudes. No more separate dining rooms that relegated kitchens to workshops for food preparation. No more formal parties that required engraved invitations, fine linen, good china, and real silver. Americans wanted to gather for fun—for barbecues, fondue parties, and smorgasbords. The walls between cooking and dining were fading away – with more casual social interactions taking center stage.

In 1953, the Nierenbergs were traveling in Europe in search of something that would address these burgeoning desires. In Scandinavian design they found elegant simplicity wrought from practical materials that could be furnished to the American market at reasonable prices. Through the early work of Danish designer Jens Quistgaard, they found beauty and intelligence that was both relevant and revered. Dansk was born.

Over the past half century, Dansk’s commitment to distinctive design for the casual American lifestyle has endured both in homes and museums, including the Louvre in Paris, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D.C.

Dansk continues to challenge the paradigms that make up our lives; exploring new ways to create useful and expressive tools for entertaining and dining. With its Scandinavian modern design ethic – applying to clean, simple, intelligent solutions to great natural materials – Dansk makes everything Dansk to go with everything Dansk; and everything Dansk to go with the way we live today.

Imperia® was established officially on February 3rd, 1932 as the development of a little artisan workshop and started at once to distribute pasta machines around the world.

The main market of reference became the United States of America and its numerous Italian emigrants who, thanks to the use of pasta machines established a sort of sentimental link with the tastes of their far-off homeland. Now Imperia exports to 77 countries worldwide.

With the company's expansion, the Imperia brand became synonymous with durable household products with a strong brand identity. The present range includes over 25 items, each specifically created to guarantee an unmistakable quality of fresh pasta.
The pasta line has been joined by a range of small kitchen appliances (graters, tomato juicers and meat mincers). Production is carried out at the plant in Sant'Ambrogio, Turin and they are proud to be able to say that each product is 100% Italian, made by national workers with national raw materials.

The Zeroll® Ice Cream Scoop is considered to be the first modern ice cream scoop. Its revolutionary design was the inspiration of Sherman Kelly of Toledo, Ohio. As the story goes, Kelly was vacationing in West Palm Beach, Florida, when he observed a young woman dipping ice cream. Noticing the blisters on her hand from the constant use of the disher in the hard ice cream, he thought to himself, “there must be a better way to serve ice cream.” Kelly resolved to find it. In 1933, Sherman Kelly developed the design for the Zeroll® Ice Cream Dipper and received a patent. The dipper was a non-mechanical ice cream scoop, made of cast aluminum, with fluid inside the handle. Its unique design transferred heat from the user’s hand, warming the fluid, which in turn defrosted the ice cream dipper. There was no longer a need to rinse the dipper in water between servings. A key advantage, in addition to having no breakable parts, was the ability to roll the ice cream into a ball instead of squeezing it, allowing the dispenser to get 10% - 20% more servings per gallon.

Sherman Kelly established The Zeroll Co. in his garage on Robinwood Avenue in Toledo, Ohio in 1935. Given all of its advantages, it is no wonder that the Zeroll® Ice Cream Scoop sold thousands in its first year of production alone.

In 1989, The Zeroll Co. introduced yet another unique product to the Foodservice Industry and the Retail Market, the Universal EZ Disher, a one-piece, ergonomically designed, spring-less food portioner, available in thirteen sizes. The only disher of its kind, the Universal EZ Disher quickly became the disher of choice for restaurants, hotels and cafeterias all over the world.

For over 70 years, The Zeroll Co. has continued to dominate the marketplace in company reputation and product quality. The Original Zeroll® Ice Cream Scoop has undergone no substantial design changes since its introduction in 1935 and is still manufactured in the United States of America. The beauty and utility of the Zeroll® Ice Cream Scoop is displayed in the Museum of Modern Art’s Permanent Design Collection in New York City.

2010 marks the 75th anniversary of The Zeroll Co., a feat that is unmatched in the industry. The Zeroll Co. is proud of its heritage and will continue to be a pioneer in the world of smallwares for years to come. – zeroll.com

Celestial Arts started printing food posters in 1970. Ten Speed Press purchased Celestial Arts in 1983 and continued the poster business. In 2009, Random House purchased Ten Speed Press but did not continue making posters.

“Our poster business had a good run,” said Nichole Geiger, longtime Ten Speed Press poster program manager and children’s department publisher. “For now, many are still available new for sale. We are not sure how many posters were created. The number may be in the hundreds. We have a partial archive here in our new California office.

“Eventually the poster rights will return to the writers, photographers, and artists who created them.”

When that happens, at least some of the posters could be republished. Meanwhile, the original posters have become collector’s items, though just how much they may appreciate in value remains to be seen. - examiner.com/article/food-art

Jackie Leventhal, founder of Hero Arts, has come a long way from the Berkeley cottage where she started her business in the mid-70's. As an art teacher, she began making stamps in her home with an old, borrowed vulcanizer. Soon her creations were in great demand, not just by her students, but also at craft fairs (butterflies, a dancing frog, and a big sun were early favorites). Hero Arts was born.

By 1981, Hero Arts was a vital force in the growing stamp movement. Craft fairs led to gift shows; local retail trade grew into national and even international distribution. The company evolved into an industry leader. Hero Arts innovated the color label top. The Hero Arts catalog has won gold and silver medals numerous times over the past decade. And, Hero Arts was even awarded a US Patent for original paper designs. Every product we make today has the simple elegance of Jackie's original vision.

Today, despite tough economic times, Hero Arts is a thriving company of over 35 years that has not compromised its quality or original founding goals. Hero Arts is an industry leader, and considered the innovator in the stamp, cardmaking and scrapbooking markets. Hero Arts remains committed to its original founding family ethic: company founder Jackie Leventhal is the Design Director, her son Aaron Leventhal is the CEO, and Aaron’s cousin Todd Mullins is the Vice President of Sales.

They remain passionate about stamping, obsessed with quality, and dedicated to their customers. Since their founding they've relied on their customers to inspire and sustain them.
